The main objective of this medical research project is to assess and ensure the accuracy of research endeavors related to breast cancer and diabetes within the context of Afro medical research. The goal is to review and evaluate research projects conducted by students, with a focus on verifying the accuracy of the methodologies, data analysis, and overall findings. Supporting the development of this project will involve: Conduct background research to review the health content to ensure they are accurate and the sources are credible. Provide feedback and recommendation to improve our health research content. Add 30mins meeting with our admin team and our placement student to discuss the reviewed health contents. Students would need to have a Medical background/ currently in medical school
Protein AI Phase 2 Learning and Accessibility Testing
The main goal for the project is to complete the learning of software platforms GitLab, Helix Core, Firebase, and Cloud App Engine, and to build sample models to use on each platform. Additionally, the project aims to test the accessibility of LLM for Gemini 1.5 pro, Meta's Lama, H2O.ai, hugging face, and mistral. The findings from the research and testing will be presented to the team.
AI-Generated Health Chronic Illness Skin Images Project
The main goal for the project is to train and leverage AI to generate appropriate images of health chronic illness on the skin for the purpose of health education and health advocacy, particularly for Black and racialized populations. The project aims to use AI technology to create visual representations of skin conditions that are commonly experienced by these communities, in order to provide better health education and advocacy.
Grant Reviewer
The Grant Reviewer is responsible for evaluating Afro Health Research from Medical Students to determine their eligibility, merit, and alignment with our organization's goals and criteria. This role involves a thorough analysis of proposal content, budget considerations, and adherence to guidelines. This project will involve several different steps for the students, including: Reviewing Afro Health Research proposals to assess their quality, feasibility, and alignment with our organization's mission and goals. Ensuring that proposals comply with the specified guidelines and criteria set by the funding organization Working collaboratively with other grant reviewers and committee members to discuss and compare evaluations.
Teaching Intern Wellbeing Program Supervisor for Sankofa Bridge Program
The main objective of this project is to enhance student learning through a program called Sankofa Bridge Program at Downsview Secondary School. The project aims to address the needs of students by providing additional support and reinforcement of class materials, ultimately contributing to increased academic success. The students involved in this project are expected to achieve a deeper understanding of the class material and show improvement in their academic performance. THIS IS AN IN PERSON OPPORTUNITY AT DOWNSVIEW SECONDARY SCHOOL IN TORONTO, ONTARIO. Requirements for Participants: Must be able to commute to Downsview Secondary School. We would like to support our volunteers and help connect them to recruiters and hiring managers looking for talent. We currently work with a team of over 10 volunteers, much of whom are still completing their undergraduate degree or a newcomer. Our objective with this role is to create a mailing list of recruiters and hiring managers who will be sent our monthly newsletter. Our aim is to make recruiters and hiring managers more aware of the amazing work our volunteers do with the goal of potentially hiring them or scheduling an interview with them. This project will involve several different steps for the students, including: Documenting the current state of our staff and volunteer recruitment process, from the time the resource need is identified to the time the position is filled. Evaluate the skills, experiences, and motivations of potential volunteers or employees to ensure they align with the organization's needs and values. Assessing our current process and making recommendations for improvements and efficiencies. Actively seek out individuals with the skills and passion necessary to contribute to the organization's goal. This may involve outreach through social media, community events, and networking. The main objective of the described project is to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to develop, analyze, and track images for mental health research.The project aims to address various aspects related to mental health, including accuracy in image generation, linguistic analysis of wording and sentences used in AI image development, and the synthesis of mental health AI images based on qualitative research findings.

Health Research Review Team
We are looking for medical students to support with reviewing the research content our research writing team as well as provide recommendations and feedback. These medical students will be part of our health research review team and will meet once a month to go over the recommended and feedback provided. The review project will be turned in to health brochures and comic books. Health Data Research Analyst
We are looking for students to support data analysis and presentations on health surveillance of chronic and infectious illnesses currently monitored by Health Canada and Public Health Ontario. Students will be asked to create statistical reports on health surveillance findings from Health Canada based on priority health illnesses and provide recommendations on health initiatives the organization should purse. These statistical findings will be used to advice our health research projects. Supporting the development of this project will involve: Conduct background research on health surveillance on health illnesses currently monitored by the Government of Canada. Analyzing data and providing recommendations on monitored health conditions to incorporate as furure health projects that promote awareness & health literacy. Presenting health reports to the team.

We are looking for assistance in finding and completing grant applications that support our mission and vision statement. We believe this project will include: Assist with defining a company-identified community problem and as well a problem that impacts racialized communities. Developing solutions to address the problem that is aligned with the organization's mission and capacity. Develop a needs statement that characterizes the community problem and justifies the need for our project and funding. Identify potential sponsors and funding opportunities that are a good fit for our organization and project. Support with grant writing for the organization. As well as improve the clarity and persuasiveness of our company's grant proposal writing.

The objective of this project is to support the development of a new branding guide for the Racialized Students In Healthcare website and social media posts . Our aim is to effectively communicate the work our organization does and increase engagement on social media; Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn as well as increase traffic to our website. We would like to collaborate with students interested in graphic design, branding and website development. The finalized version of this guide will be used to support the content that we post on social media particularly when we launch our health comic book next year. Supporting the development of this branding guide includes: Conducting background research on branding and communication strategies other health organizations and business use Create social media content samples and wording for the branding toolkit Provide recommendations for changes to the Racialized Students In Healthcare website.
Insulin Interaction With The Body: Comic Book
The objective of this project is to create contents for our comic book which describes Type 2 diabetes, how insulin works on the body and how it might result in hypertension in older populations. Our aim is to communicate insulin's affect on the body from a patient centered perspective focusing on older adults while using simple language and including medical jargon only when necessary We would like to collaborate with students interested in healthcare to conduct literature reviews and interviews with health providers to help us build our comic booklet. The finalized version of this comic book will be shared via our newsletter, our social media page and our health mobile information team that we will be launching during the summer in 2023. The goal of this project is to create a background research for our mental health infographic booklet that communicates experiences of mental health illnesses such as depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia experienced by Black communities in Canada. We would like to collaborate with students to conduct literature reviews and focus group interviews to help us build our infographic booklet. The finalized version of this infographic will be shared via our newsletter on our social media page and through our health mobile information team that we will be launching during the summer in 2023. Supporting the development of this infographic will involve: Conduct background research on social determinants of health that contribute to mental illnesses Reaching out to mental health service providers to interview them. Analyze discussions from interviews to determine pattern recognition of factors that contribute to mental health illnesses
Global Public Health Research
The goal is to raise awareness of global health illnesses that impact people across the world. Through this project we hope to engage more students in health science research writing that highlights health conditions that impact Afro continental communities using an intersectional lens. Students will be expected to research medical illnesses that impact African communities and analyze them for social determinants of health that sustain these health illnesses as well as highlight Research institutions across the continent of Africa leading the way in innovation. Students will gain project management and health research experience and will gain soft skills such as leadership, communication and analytical skills while supporting us in implementing this project.
