Bio

I am an Associate Professor of Accounting at Salem State University, Massachusetts, USA. I am Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certified and hold a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Essex, England, United Kingdom. My objective is to partner my undergraduate and graduate classes with business partners, so that I can provide experiential learning opportunities to my students in the areas of accounting and data analytics. Such mini-internships would give all my students, not just a select few, the opportunity to solve a problem for an actual business entity and develop communication and time management skills.

Very friendly and respectful teacher. She always responds to our emails and requests very quickly. However, students often complained that they did not receive adequate support for this project, which may have contributed to the lack of engagement of many of them. Many times it was us, CTS, who contacted the students to ask if they had any questions and clarify the project, but at a certain point we stopped contacting the students constantly, as it did not make sense for the client (CTS) to always have to seek support from service providers (students and teacher). Despite this, two presentations had ideas that can be used in our company, and we can apply the others in the future when the company is more robust.

Students attended only a few meetings, missing weekly sessions and lack of focus made deliverables half completed if at all. Not the best experience.

Financial Accounting Project

ACC 106

Jan 25, 2025 - May 2, 2025

Students can analyze accounting transactions (via debits and credits), prepare income statements, statements of retained earnings, and balance sheets. They learn about the accounting cycle (analyzing business transactions, recording them in the general journal, posting to the general ledger, making adjustments to account balances, preparing financial statements, and closing some accounts). They can do this manually. Students also know about financial ratios and they can analyze financial statements. Students also study about the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) responsibility of business to society and the planet (via non-financial disclosures). The class studies US GAAP, but we are open to exploring IFRS accounting rules, as well.
