Prior to founding Qualisure Diagnostics, I was a surgical oncologist and professor of surgery and oncology at the University of Calgary. My practice over more than 22 years has focused on the treatment of cancers of the liver, pancreas and gastrointestinal tract. In addition, I ran a research program in cancer biology and biomarker development. Through that work, my lab has gained expertise in bioinformatics and machine learning. The development of a machine learning algorithm that scours large genomic databases to identify the molecular features of cancer that are most closely related to survival outcomes was the genesis of Qualisure Diagnostics. Using that machine learning algorithm, we have already developed a pipeline of diagnostic tests that are engineered to help clinicians to make personalized decisions on how to manage cancer. Our first test to be launched is a test for thyroid cancer.
