Student goals and capabilities

Welcome to the DeGroote School of Business’ private Level UP experience. This unique initiative enables industry partners to engage DeGroote undergraduate (BCom) and graduate (MBA, MFin and MSc in eHealth) students in providing solutions for their business challenges.

Students dedicate 80-hours per project and receive a $1,400 CAD stipend upon successful completion. Employers provide the projects and Riipen provides the student stipend!

These projects provide students with the opportunity to gain real-world experience by solving a specific social, business, design, or community related problem for an industry partner. These projects typically take place over a 4-6 week period. At the end of the projects students will be asked to present their solution to the industry partner.

Here’s how it works:

  • Craft a detailed project description (including supporting documentation) to best attract your ideal student candidate(s).
  • Submit your project for our DeGroote team to review.
  • Once your project gets the green light, students (individually or in teams) will apply directly.
  • Provide a “mentor/point of contact” for the duration of the project
  • Meet with the students to receive the final deliverables.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Deliverables will vary depending on your unique business needs. When posting projects, be clear in the final deliverables that you want students to submit.

For students: Work must be submitted on the platform to receive the stipend. Project deliverables are required, or if an NDA was required, the redacted deliverables or a sample of non-confidential work.

  1. Deliverables should be submitted as uploaded files to validate the completion of your work. These files can encompass various formats such as Word documents, PDFs, JPEG images, presentations, etc. We require tangible proof or an example of your completed work.

Project Examples

Let's talk about project specifics! Projects must be 80 hours of work. Here's a briefing on how to make your project stand out:

It's all about short, remote projects that are project-based, not job postings. Explicit, focused scopes are the name of the game. If you opt for a template from the Riipen library, add details of your business context for a personalized touch. Any template-based projects need to incorporate customization to get the thumbs up from us. While students will collaborate with you, your project description should stand alone in conveying the project's scope. Precise details ensure that students and projects match up perfectly.

We will do our best to find the right students to work on your projects but unfortunately we can not guarantee a match.

There are 50 internships available within this experience.

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

What is the postal code of your business?

What is the size of your organisation?

Do you have a 9 or 10 digit business number?

If 'yes'. What is your 9 or 10 digit business number?

If 'no'. What is the reason that you do not have a 9 or 10 digit business number?

If you selected 'other'. Please specify
