writing interpersonal skills communication data analysis researchSupervised, technical work integrated learning experience in a public or private organization for up to 8-weeks from July 6 to August 31. Restricted to undergraduate students meeting the requirements of the Faculty of Applied Science and the Co-operative Education Program. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements will only occur virtually.
Deliverables will vary depending on the scope of the project. The student team should complete about 300 to 400 hours (approximately 100 hours per student) for your organization by the end of August.

Project Examples
Students can complete a substantial project for your organization over the placement period. We suggest providing one centralized main project, if there are other duties and/or experiences the organization can provide to students as well, that is encouraged.
Project examples that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:
Civil, Environmental, & Geological
- Analysis and design of retaining wall, foundations, and or slope stability mitigation
- Environmental Impact Assessment report using existing site data
- Evaluation of quantities and preparation of cost estimate for construction
- Structural design for a proposed building
- Hydrological analysis and hydraulic modeling of a river reach
Mechanical
- Design of a bike stabilization apparatus
- Design of a solar-powered water heater
- Research and development on the use of geothermal energy for greenhouse heating
Electrical
- Design and drafting of an electrical system for a new building
- Research and development on electrical hardware
- Power distribution assessment and recommendations for improvement
Computer
- Creation of an app or game for smartphone
- Development or overhaul of a website
- Development of a program or database
Mining
- Review haul truck data to provide recommendations to increase hauling efficiency
- Ore reserve estimation
- Preparation of mining activity report
Chemical & Biological
- Development of computational models for various elements of fuel cell design and performance
- Water or air quality filtration design
Interdisciplinary
- Technical procedural manual for a process or machine
- Design of prototype electric skateboard or bike
- Design of a building hydrovac system
- Analysis of a large data set to find insightful trends, draw conclusions and provide recommendations
- Development
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Be available for a quick video meeting or phone call with the instructor (if necessary) to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.
Provide feedback on students performance where necessary
Provide technical project to student(s) that is appropriate for 2nd-3rd year Engineering students
Provide a dedicated contact who is available to act as project lead, meet with the students remotely, answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions.
