This project requires researching and derisking some of the new cutting-edge projects that Seleste is working on. It will include writing documentation on issues, finding and setting up calls with industry experts and reading complex research papers.
This project has to do with innovations Seleste is making with our app software including finding third-party APIs to integrate with, optimizations in our video-calling and AI flow and enhancing app accessibility.
Seleste is changing the assistive technology industry by developing the highest quality smart glasses product with better AI and video-calling while remaining financially accessible!
The current hardware challenges we are facing and need to improve on are improving our AI functionality through API integration, optimizing our Bluetooth/wifi architecture and new UI elements to improve app accessibility. A student would work on one Software challenge and deliver the following work product -
- Write documentation on the software challenge being tackled, starting off by summarizing the challenge we are facing
- Do research online and setup calls for the team with industry experts working on the cutting-edge of the problem
- Summarize finding and if possible have recommendations and mitigations for the challenge
- Report findings to technical team in meeting
Onboarding calls with the students to explain the scope of the project and set milestones. There will be weekly check-ins to make sure that the students do not have any questions or concerns. Additional support will be provided on an ad-hoc basis as I am happy to meet if need be. The student will also be able to talk to the other interns for help or advice. The student can also connect to our five technical advisors all of whom have 10+ years of development or computer science research experience! There will also be regular updates that will be provided by the students in terms of their progress.
We will plan to communicate with our virtual intern(s) using phone calls, email and through the company slack
About the company
Seleste is a new wearable tech startup in Vancouver creating smart glasses for the blind/visually-impaired. We truly believe smart glasses are the future of personal computing and want to use technology to make a positive impact and help an often overlooked group of people. The glasses have a camera so that visually impaired people can video call a friend and ask for help. They can also use computer vision for Reading Text, Object Recognition, and more. You will work directly at the forefront of the new wave of wearable technology while helping to change the lives of the 217 million visually impaired people worldwide.
