Details

We are eager to collaborate with students who can assist us in navigating the grant application process. This collaboration will entail several essential steps for the students, including:

  1. Familiarizing themselves with our organization's vision statement and one of our defined projects.
  2. Crafting a comprehensive needs statement that delineates the community problem we aim to address and convincingly justifies the necessity for funding our project.
  3. Identifying potential sponsors and funding opportunities that align with both our organization's mission and our specific project goals.
  4. Enhancing the clarity and persuasiveness of our grant proposal writing, ensuring it effectively communicates our mission and project impact.

As an added opportunity, students can also explore:

  • Identifying novel community project opportunities that resonate with our mission.
  • We are seeking motivated students who can take on the responsibility of small-scale grant writing to help our organization secure the funding needed to make a meaningful impact in the lives of neurodivergent youth and the broader community."

Additionally an option will be given to take on a literature review related to neurodiversity, youth, and health. Completing a literature review involves several essential steps: defining research objectives, creating effective search strategies, conducting comprehensive database searches, selecting and evaluating sources, categorizing and organizing materials, maintaining a bibliographic database, analyzing and summarizing key findings, synthesizing information, writing concise source summaries, critiquing source quality, identifying influential authors and theories, citing sources consistently, possibly creating a conceptual framework, writing a coherent review section, editing and proofreading meticulously, staying current with new research, and seeking feedback from peers and mentors. This systematic process ensures a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of the chosen research topic.

Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of our organization’s values and purpose
  • Understanding of the community project
  • Identification of potential sponsors and funding sources
  • Recommendations for improving our grant proposals

Bonus steps would include:

  • Defining new community projects with appropriate scopes

Final deliverables should include

  • A reflection, and grant written submission or
  • A literature review/report that is minimum 2000 words long.
Mentorship

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Our mission and vision statement, how non-profit and consulting works
  • Learn more about youth led, and community driven advocacy
  • Our community projects and previous grant applications
  • Provide training and tips on how to conduct research ethically, meaningfully and collaboratively,
  • Provide mentorship and training on grant writing.
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.
  • We will offer zoom calls, and any support or accommodations that may be necessary throughout the duration of the project! We strive to achieve accessibility and neuroinclusivity.

The Coalition of Neurodivergent Youth (CNY) is a dedicated, youth-led organization situated in the Greater Toronto Area with a profound commitment to elevating awareness and fostering acceptance of invisible disabilities. Our central mission revolves around the cultivation of leadership skills within a diverse youth demographic, irrespective of their individual backgrounds. Our overarching goal is to facilitate the development of tomorrow's leaders, regardless of their ancestry, gender, abilities, or socioeconomic status.

We proudly align ourselves with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3, which seeks to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being across all age groups. Our advocacy initiatives are geared towards fostering respect, recognition, and inclusivity for neurodiverse youth in every facet of society. We diligently address the obstacles hindering their access to essential services, such as employment, healthcare, and community support.

At CNY, we are dedicated to shedding light on the unique challenges faced by neurodiverse youth, particularly in the realms of education, employment, and daily life. Our distinctive approach is founded on empowering these young individuals through a strengths-based methodology. Furthermore, we actively engage in an array of research projects, craft informative awareness campaigns, and disseminate valuable resources designed to benefit both youth and their families.
