Details

We would like to create a network of community agencies in Edmonton supporting older adults from ethnocultural backgrounds. Through the project, we plan to build the relationship with different agencies, to develop potential collaboration and partnership opportunities. In the future, we will work with several community agencies to develop community-based research projects. Therefore, this connection and collaboration stage is fundamental for future work.

Deliverables

The student will first collect information related to community agencies providing services to older adults from ethnocultural communities. Then we will send out emails or make phone calls to connect with their program managers and research coordinators to introduce ourselves, our plan, and to create connections with them. The student will create a database for the project for long-term collaboration. The student will also collect feedback from community agencies and summary them.

Mentorship

I will provide guidance and mentorship to students. As social work profession, it is important to understand the significance of community services, and how those programs support people in need. The student will learn how to find those programs. I will also support the student in developing relationship with community agencies. The student will work in my shadow and observe how to develop professional relationship with community partners. During the project, I will meet the student weekly, and provide guidance based on the tasks. No office space is needed so far, most work will be conducted online.

Education

Transformative, collaborative and supportive education: it’s at the heart of what we do. The same qualities are at the heart of what social workers do when they work with families, provide support and transform lives in the communities where they live and work. Students are prepared with the competencies and practice skills to assess and practice in a professional social work setting. Faculty members have a wide range of expertise in social work education, strong connections with the community, and active engagement in research and scholarly activities to advance social work education.
