Details

This internship aims to provide students with a hands-on opportunity to apply their knowledge in biomedical engineering (or electrical engineering) through a controlled study on non-invasive bone stimulation for fracture risk reduction. The project will focus on data collection, basic data analysis, and report writing, using simulated data or a specific subset of an animal study. KAT Innovation’s Chief Biomedical and Electrical Engineer will assist and guide the intern throughout the internship, ensuring support on data handling and analysis. The project will be tailored specifically to biomedical engineering, making it suitable for learners from a single academic program.

Deliverables

The intern will be expected to accomplish the following tasks and deliverables to achieve the project goal:

1.    Data Collection:

  • The intern will assist with organizing and collecting data for a defined portion of the study or use simulated data.
  • Guidance will be provided by KAT Innovation's Chief Biomedical and Electrical Engineer to ensure correct methods are followed.

2.    Basic Data Analysis:

  • The intern will perform simple data analysis, such as calculating averages and identifying trends from the collected data.
  • The Chief Engineer will support the intern with analysis techniques suitable for biomedical engineering.

3.    Study Summary Report:

  • The intern will write a report that summarizes the study’s methodology, data collection, and basic analysis, focusing on clear communication of findings.
  • The Chief Engineer will provide feedback to ensure the report is accurate and well-structured.

4.    Data Visualization:

  • The intern will create simple graphs and charts to visualize trends in the data.
  • Guidance will be given to ensure the visuals are easy to understand and align with biomedical engineering principles.

5.    Contribution to Simplified White Paper Draft:

  • The intern will assist in drafting a basic section of a white paper, focusing on summarizing key findings in a non-technical way.
  • This task will be simplified to focus on summarizing results rather than advanced scientific writing, with guidance from the Chief Engineer.

6.    Final Presentation:

  • The intern will prepare and deliver a final presentation summarizing the data collection, analysis, and key findings.
  • The Chief Engineer will provide support in refining the presentation for clarity and effectiveness.
