Details

This company involves the production and sale of handmade products by a young artisan and entreprenuer with a disability.

Our goal is to locate and apply for grants that are designed to facilitate community involvement, business growth and development.

We would like to collaborate with a student to find and complete one or more grant applications.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Virtual meeting with the entreprenuer and his aide
  • Familiarizing themselves with the company's needs and goals
  • Developing a needs statement that characterizes the need for our project and funding.
  • Identifying potential sponsors and funding opportunities that are a good fit for our organization and project.
  • Improve the clarity and persuasiveness of our company's grant proposal writing.

Bonus steps in the process would also include:

  • Identifying new opportunities for business development
Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of our organization’s goals and values
  • Understanding of the business
  • Identification of potential sponsors and funding sources
  • Recommendations for improving our grant proposals

Final deliverables should include

  • A list of recommended grant programs to apply to, including deadlines and parameters
  • Drafts of one or more grant proposals
Mentorship

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Our mission and vision statement
  • Our community projects and previous grant applications
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.

Pet with Paws was created by Douglas, a graduate of Camrose Composite High School. He loves swimming and won 2 silver medals for Team Alberta at the 2018 Special Olympics National Games for swimming in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

Douglas started out by making bracelets with paracord. He realized that when woven, paracord was a sturdy product that would provide strength to a dog leash while also being light and giving the handle grip so that it won’t slip out of your hand. So, he made his first dog leash. Then it just made sense to move on to weaving a collar to match!

So began the start of a new business plan. Douglas then began baking homemade treats and pet care products for his two dogs, Molly and Sage (now Quality Control Inspectors for his company) and his friends’ pups.

Douglas is consistently looking for new ideas for the business and is very excited about em-bark-ing on this new challenge with Pets with Paws which he hopes will continue to grow.
