We invite organisations that include 20 or more staff members or volunteers to get in touch and discuss our MBA student consultancy opportunity.

 If you are contemplating any of these changes, or have another in mind, our MBA student ‘consultants’ can help.


The Change Management module at Nottingham Business School has taken place (under sometimes different names and in slightly different guises) for several years. Students able to apply change tools with a participating business as part of a ‘real-life’ brief can achieve high grades and have found it an enjoyable experience. At the same time the business taking part can gain fresh thinking from an enthusiastic team.


Our students recognise that knowledge of ‘How’ to effect successful change in an organisation is essential for today’s businesses and business leaders. This module gives them the opportunity to consider the ‘How?’ of organisational change, rather than the ‘What?’ or the ‘Why?’

The next available MBA Change Management projects take place during week commencing 4 December 2023.


Prior to this you'll be asked to meet with Business School staff and agree the outline of a challenge brief that can be assigned to a student team. This meeting also gives us the chance to answer your questions and explain how the project is likely to work.


A team of approximately 5 students will be assigned, and the team is allocated an Academic Supervisor.


By late November the team will be in touch to agree with you an action plan for the project week. This will allow you to arrange the schedule of any meetings that the team want to have with your co-workers or other stakeholders, if appropriate.


During the project delivery week:

  • Day 01: Students carry out fact-finding and carry out discussions with you and other parties as agreed.
  • Days 02- 04: Students carry out additional research which may include some follow up calls and meetings with you.
  • Day 05: Presentation day. During this day you'll be invited to observe the students final presentation. This takes the form of a 30minute verbal presentation, usually using Microsoft PowerPoint or similar.


You'll be invited to take part in a follow up Q&A session with the students and to share with the students and their Academic Supervisor your comments and feedback.

Project Examples

The MBA students, especially those on the full-time MBA programmes, are recruited from all over the world, and bring with them a minimum equivalent of a good honours degree and useful previous and current work experience. 


If you make the decision to host a project you can expect the following from our students: 


  • Open mindedness and the ability to ask searching questions and explore the company from new angles. 
  • Students with access to up-to-date research information via on-line databases on financial performance, market research analysis, newspapers and journals and unlimited access to public Internet resources.  
  • The ability to analyse a situation from a variety of perspectives supported by an understanding of appropriate frameworks and concepts.  
  • The ability to develop commercially relevant recommendations. 
  • Confidentiality – we recognise that each business is operating in a commercially sensitive environment and that access to confidential information makes it imperative that this information is not divulged outside the group in any form. (We can enter into a non-disclosure agreement where appropriate). 
  •  A commitment to the client company and its welfare. 
  •  A high standard of professional behaviour including punctuality, politeness, and sensitivity. 
  •  Operation of the project in line with the agreed consultancy proposal.

 

What do we expect from a company? 


Below are some indicators of what we believe helps provide the right learning experience for the student groups and therefore produce successful outcomes for you: 


  • A company of sufficient size to have a relatively complex organisational culture, where bringing about change can be challenging. Ideally, an organisation (in any sector) with a head count of 25+ is ideal.
  • An organisation located in the same time zone as Nottingham, UK makes it easier for our students to schedule meetings with you.
  • Where meetings are conducted remotely, we ask that clients have easy availability to the technology necessary to take part in online meetings. 
  • Challenging projects that are genuinely of benefit to the organisation. 
  • Finding time to discuss and debate issues with students. 
  • Enough access to the organisation and relevant staff, stakeholders for students to gain an understanding of the organisation and its environment. 
  • On-going contact with someone within the organisation throughout the project period. 
  • Regular feedback of your views relating to the project progress and direction to the University tutor and the student group. 
  • Timely response to the initial student consultancy project proposal and any reasonable student requests for additional information.
