Bring on learners from St Ambrose University to be your learner-consultants, in a project-based experience. Learners will work on one main project over the experience of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.
Learners in this program/experience will explore planning, organization and control. Examines how systems work, role of internal communication, flow, content, interpretation of messages, problem-solving, avoiding communication breakdowns, changing attitudes, motivation, leveling, interpreting management’s point-of-view. Investigates internal and external types of communication, dyads, interviewing and counseling, selling and persuading.
Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the learners and the organization.
- The final project will include a 10-12 page paper analyzing the communication practices of the selected organization. Papers will consist of background information concerning the organization, an analysis of the decision-making patterns, methods for conflict resolution, group conformity, and cohesiveness.
- A 10-15 minute formal presentation of your organization will occur at the end of the semester.

Project Examples
Learners in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.
Project activities that learners can complete may include, but are not limited to:
- Applying their understanding of how individuals impact and are impacted by organizational involvement, and working with an organization to identify actionable recommendations.
- Recognizing the primary issues affecting organizational communication such as power, politics, conflict, and ethics and applying that to a real business.
- Researching the structure and process of communication within organizations and how businesses can better equip themselves.
- Develop a strategy around honest and ethical organizational communication.
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Be available for a quick phone/virtual call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the experience.
Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address learners’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.
Provide an opportunity for learners to present their work and receive feedback.
Provide relevant information and/or data as needed for the project.
