Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from University Canada West to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.


Attracting the right people and developing them to achieve organizational goals are critical functions for all types and sizes of organizations. This course constitutes part one of three elective courses for students who wish to achieve the CPHR BC Yukon designation upon fulfilment of their MBA requirements. The focus of this course is Human Resource Management (HRM) cycle of employer branding, recruitment, selection, training, performance management, and internal career planning. Students also explore the special needs of remote working (Nomad). Students are exposed to HRIS relating to performance management.

Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.

Some final project deliverables might include:

  1. A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
  2. A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations

Project Examples

Students in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Project activities that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategic staffing and planning
  • Job analysis and personnel recruitment/selection planning
  • Internal and external recruitment
  • Internal and external selection (screening, testing, interview, and etc.)
  • Decision making in job offers
  • Orientation training for new employees
  • Training to increase the work-related skills of employees
  • Training that addresses undesired attitudes and/or beliefs in the workplace
  • Process to link business goals to individual performance expectations
  • Performance feedback and evaluation program
  • Employee training and development plan, and evaluating outcomes
  • Leadership development program
  • Management succession plan
  • Variable compensation plan
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project.

Provide an opportunity for students to present their work and receive feedback.

Client is able to work with up to 8 groups of students

How is your project relevant to the course?

A representative of the company will be available to answer questions from students in a timely manner for the duration of the project. Client is available to join class at the beginning of the project to introduce their company and project to students.

A representative of the company will be available for a pre-selection discussion with the administrator of the course to review the project scope.
